Safeguarding

As an associated ministry (AM) of the Fountain of Life Church, we adhere to their policies regarding safeguarding and transport of children and young people, both of which are found below:

Safeguarding Children and Young People

This Safeguarding Principles Policy should be read and used in conjunction with Promoting a Safer Church Policy Statement which was approved by Diocesan Synod on 21/10/2017.

This policy was adopted by Fountain of Life Church at the Church Council meeting held on 23rd May 2019. It will be displayed in a prominent position, reviewed annually, and amended as necessary.

 

  1. It is the responsibility of all church members to do their best to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional and spiritual abuse or neglect of children and young people, and to report abuse that is alleged or suspected.

  2. This church will observe Church of England guidelines with regard to Children and Young People. It will support and resource workers who are appointed by the Church Council, and provide for them supervision as a way of maintaining good practice.

  3. Workers will be expected to undertake the Safeguarding Training that is offered by the Diocese and they may be required to obtain a DBS disclosure and complete a Confidential Declaration before commencing their work.

  4. Responsibility for the appointment of workers shall rest with the Church Council.

 

The Named Person appointed by the Church Council to oversee the implementation of this policy and to represent the concerns and views of children and young people is Colette Wilkinson

Transporting Children and Young People Policy

 

There will be occasions when staff/volunteers are expected or asked to transport children as part of their duties. Staff/volunteers, who are expected to use their own vehicles for transporting children should ensure that the vehicle is roadworthy, with a current MOT certificate, appropriately insured (for staff this means insurance for business use) and that the maximum capacity is not exceeded. Drivers should do their utmost to spend the least amount of time alone in a car with a young person and where transporting a number of children/young people, should be mindful of not leaving the most vulnerable in the car until last where possible. If possible two adults should travel with the children.

 

It is a legal requirement that all passengers should wear seat belts and it is the responsibility of the staff member to ensure that this requirement is met. Staff/volunteers should also be aware of current legislation and adhere to the use of car seats for younger children. Where staff/volunteers transport children in a vehicle, which requires a specialist license/insurance e.g. PCV or LGV - they should ensure that they have an appropriate license and insurance to drive such a vehicle. Where youth trips take place using the minibus, two drivers should be present in accordance with our minibus policy.

 

It is inappropriate for staff to offer lifts to a child or young person outside their normal working duties, unless this has been brought to the attention of the line manager and has been agreed with the parents/carers.

 

There may be occasions where the child or young person requires transport in an emergency situation or where not to give a lift may place a child at risk.  Such circumstances must always be recorded and reported to a manager and parents/carers.

 

The Fountain of Life should keep records of driving licence, MOT and insurance details for all paid workers using their cars for work.

 

This means that team leaders should:

 

  • ensure workers are aware of appropriate guidelines for transporting children and young people

 

This means that workers should:

 

  • ensure they are  fit to drive and free from any  drugs, alcohol or medicine  which is likely to impair judgment and/ or ability to drive

  • be aware that the safety and welfare of the child is their responsibility until they are safely passed over to a parent/carer

  • ensure that their behaviour is appropriate at all times

  • ensure that there are proper arrangements in place to ensure vehicle, passenger and driver safety. This includes having proper and appropriate insurance for the type of vehicle being driven

  • ensure that any impromptu or emergency arrangements of lifts are notified and agreed with managers
